The ARTery currently offers two on-going programs, both focused on teaching ballroom dance to young people.

Dancing Classrooms

Dancing Classrooms is the NY based ballroom-in-the-schools program made famous by the films Mad Hot Ballroom and Take the Lead.

The program consists of 20 lessons in 10 weeks. In those lessons students learn dances from a variety of cultures and styles, including Merengue, Foxtrot, Rumba, Tango and Swing. At the conclusion of the lessons, the students are able to display what they have learned in a school showcase.

Saturday Scholarships

The next session of Saturday Scholarship classes begin in September 2010.

The Saturday Scholarship classes began in January of 2008. Students who have completed the Dancing Classrooms program in their schools are eligible to participate in free classes.

The Saturday Scholarship classes build on the foundation of dances learned during Dancing Classrooms. The classes run for 10 weeks and are held at University of Nebraska at Omaha and coordinated in cooperation with UNO’s The Moving Company dance troupe.

Veteran dance instructor and Artery teaching artist Marty Hebert brings her expert experience to teaching the class.

Saturday Scrapbook

Over the last year, the Saturday Scholarship students have been dancing and performing all over the Omaha area.

December- The students were a part of the pre-show at the Omaha Symphony’s Christmas performance.

April-danced at University of Nebraska's jazz band fundraiser.

June-performed at the Nebraska Dance Invitational, a local dance competition.

August-performed for 3000 people at the Omaha Public Schools official “Welcome Back” for administrators and teachers at the Civic Auditorium.

Saturday Scholarship Fall Session begins September 11, 2010 !

The dates for the fall session are:

September 11, 18, 25

October 9, 16, 23, 30

November 6, 13,20

Please note, there is NO class on October 2.

All classes are held at the University of Nebraska Omaha's Health, Physical Education and Recreation building.
