Congratulations to Crestridge Elementary
Crestridge Elementary won the title of Dancing Classrooms Grand Champion for 2008-09 at the final Colors of the Rainbow Team Match on Monday, May 18, 2009. The school received a trophy and each student received a large gold medal.
The other schools competing were Adams, Belvedere, Druid Hill, Dundee, and Joslyn. Each of those schools won gold at their semi-final competition either in November or May. "It was a tough competition, but each school handled the win, and the loss, with dignity and grace", said artistic Director Marian Fey. Congratulations to Crestridge! |
In its 2nd season, Saturday Scholarship classes are hotter
than ever. The ARTery in cooperation with University of Nebraska-Omaha’s The Moving Company has gotten the Fall season Saturday Scholarship classes off to a great start.
Currently, students who graduated from the Dancing Classrooms program in May of 2008 have the opportunity to dance on Saturday mornings at UNO. The program runs for 10 sessions and each student is provided with a pair of dancing shoes. |

Artistic Director, Marian Fey, on growth, stability and ‘shakin it’
In uncertain times it’s nice to know there are things you can count on. At The ARTery we are pleased to report that our programs continue to provide excellent training to young ladies and gentlemen all around Omaha. We have expanded to reach well over 1000 students in 22 schools in the 2008-09 school year. Our Saturday Scholarship classes at UNO and in partnership with The Moving Company, are flourishing under the direction of Carol Burk and Marty Hebert and we are so pleased to provide students with the opportunity to be “college students” every week. The second season of Dancing Classrooms in the 8th grade kicks off this fall and has grown to include four schools. We held our first ever Colors of the Rainbow Team Finals last May and congratulations go to the skilled team from Joslyn Elementary School who took first place!

All the graduates of the DC program participate in a showcase at their school. Twelve from each school go on to compete aginst other schools in the Colors of the Rainbow team Match competition. Some of our students need proper clothing for either or both of these events. The DC Closet is available for students to select a dress, shoes, belt, a tie, a shirt or trousers for this purpose.

Michele Patterson, ARTery Liaison “Why is our class so much fun today?” I inquired of my fifth grade Dancing Classrooms class. A lady answered, “Because we're using good dance frames.” I agreed that we were. “Because we are each trying to do the steps the right way,” a gentlemen responded. Again, I agreed. I was hoping that a student would express the most important difference between this class and the previous one. A lady raised her hand and matter-of-factly stated, “Because today we are treating each other with courtesy & respect.” Yes! Treating each other with courtesy and respect is one of the of the principle tenets of the Dancing Classroom program. |
